Trauma Informed Therapy
At Holden Place Therapy, our approach is grounded in an understanding of how trauma affects both mind and body. Through our work with Stockport Women’s Centre and Macclesfield Bereavement Support Service, we’ve seen how trauma is rarely about a single event — it can build over time through loss, fear, neglect, or repeated emotional harm.
Being trauma-informed means, we work with sensitivity to what safety and trust look like for each person. We take care to pace the work gently, helping you stay within a manageable emotional range while exploring painful or confusing experiences. Together, we might focus on noticing physical sensations, understanding triggers, or rebuilding a sense of control and self-compassion.
We don’t see trauma as a label, but as an understandable response to overwhelming experiences. The aim isn’t to re-live the past, but to integrate it — to help you reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been pushed aside for survival.
Our practice combines a person-centred foundation with elements of somatic awareness and existential understanding, always tailored to individual needs. Whether trauma stems from bereavement, relationships, childhood experiences, or sudden change, therapy offers a safe, reflective space to begin making sense of what’s happened and to move forward with greater strength and self-understanding.
